Robert “Bob” Balsam Benson

Forever remembered, Robert “Bob” Balsam Benson, 89, of McGill, Nevada passed away peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2018.

Bob was born December 25, 1928, in Houston, Texas to the late Bennie and Gladys Benson. He was the youngest of 3 siblings.

Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant during the years 1948-1952. He was a First Marine part of the 2nd Div. that landed on Inchon Beach, and was involved in the evacuation of the Army that was stranded at Chosin Reservoir. After his discharge, he was employed by Stanford University as a head electrician for 24 years, retiring in 1983.

He is survived by his former wife and friend, Anne Schroeder of McGill, NV; son, Patrick Benson of McGill, NV; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Anita Benson of Spokane Valley, WA; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Karl Shelter of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Amber, Jordan, Hannah, Robert, Jacob and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Amya, Jerad, AmyGrace and Tristan; brother, John Benson of Centerville, TX; and sister, Gladys Joyce Szopa of Houston, TX.

Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his son, Bret Benson; daughter, Tina Mossow; and infant child Lauren Benson.

A full military service will be held at the Veterans State Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Ely V.F.W.
