February 26th, Jo Gubbine has moved on in her eternal loving progression as she hope we all will. Born October 5, 1927, to her beloved parents Joseph Fern and Lillian Duncomb Swensen at home in St. Anthony, Idaho, she was an only child. She cherished her wonderful childhood with many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, and Gramma Annie on the family ranch just on the outskirts of town. Every summer growing up was spent out at the sheep camps in the Jackson Hole area, riding horses and eating trout, which she came not to like so much.
Always feeling blessed for her happy childhood, she moved on to school at Utah State in Logan, Utah. There she met James Gubbine. They became husband and wife for 71 happy years. They moved to McGill in 1950 fresh out of college. It was the same year the McGill Gym was built. Both worked their entire careers as McGill Grade School teachers. A dedicated teacher, teaching fourth grade from 1959 to 1981, she was always fair and caring. She did not like bullying, meanness and hurtful teasing from any of her students. She was good at teaching her subjects and excelled at decorating her classroom throughout the school year. Most all of her students loved her and she loved them, though at home she frequently said she would much rather be a librarian.
After retiring in 1981, she and Jim much enjoyed their pursuit of happiness in the adventures of everyday living. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver and she loved Jeopardy. She loved her Mormon faith coming from families of Mormon pioneers and she was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. From her family and friends her loving, caring and helpful ways will always be sorely missed.
She is survived by her three sons James, Jr. (Lisa) McGill, Kent, Richmond, CA, Kim (Peggy) McGill; five grandchildren, Kelly (Sarah), Sonny, Jamie, Samuel and Karolyn; five great-grandchildren, Siset, Dominique, Rihanna, Kira Mia, Mason; one great great grandchild, Leonardo. Those preceding her passing, a grandson Ty Gubbine and two daughters-in-law Susan Gubbine and Tina Gubbine.
She bids everyone a happy farewell and that all live a good life!
