Renato Fialdini, a welder by trade and an artist by heart, died Aug. 3, 2016 at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. He was 84.
A public visitation is set for 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at Walton’s Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Ln., Sparks.
Recitation of the rosary will begin at 8. The funeral service is at 11 a.m., Aug. 13 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at McCarran Boulevard and Pyramid Highway in Sparks. Burial follows the service at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery in Reno.
Renato was born April 15, 1932, in Torre de Lago Puccini, Italy, to Ugo Fialdini and Angelina Volpe Fialdini. He grew up in that town, became a welder’s apprentice and dreamed of opening his own shop.
Renato met and married Iria Catassi on June 18, 1955, and that year emigrated to America to work on his uncle’s asparagus ranch outside Stockton, Calif. He moved to Ely, Nev., where he worked for Nevada Northern Railway, Kennecott Copper Co., and the Nevada Department of Transportation’s Equipment Division.
At NDOT, Renato crafted designs to make the state’s snowplows and signage more effective. His talents extended beyond the workplace to his family and his art. A tireless, loyal and loving husband of 61 years, father of three children and grandfather of one, Renato utilized his passion for art.
He painted in oils, specializing in landscapes. His attention to detail and awe for nature inspired his daughter, a son and his grandson to paint.
A semipro soccer player, he shared his love for that sport with his family and friends.
Renato is survived by his wife, Iria; sons, Marico and Sandro; daughter, Lillian and her husband, Patrick; and his grandson, John, all of Sparks. He is also survived by dozens of loving relatives in the United States and Italy, including sister-in-law Imelde.
