In Memoriam- Jon Scott Hase
Jon Scott Hase was born May 15, 1947 to Isamu “Sam” Hase and Suzuko “Suzy” Mori Hase. He died May 2, 2023 in Henderson, NV after a hard-fought battle with lung disease.

Scott was born and lived in his beloved hometown of Ely until 2021. Scott spent many hours with his extended family and friends in the town that he loved. He was a scholar and athlete at White Pine High School and loved to tell stories about his days on the Bobcat football, basketball, and baseball teams. He spent countless hours at his family’s laundry and worked for his uncle Ben Hase’s accounting firm becoming a master at the ten-key.
Scott spent the majority of his career as the Manager of the State of Nevada’s Employment Security Office. Scott was highly respected by everyone who came in contact with him and the highest echelon of the department valued his abilities and guidance.
He married Judilynn Cutler on May 1, 1987 in a small ceremony at the White Pine County Courthouse. They were happily married for 34 years until Judi’s passing.
Scott had many hobbies. First and foremost he loved to golf, but also enjoyed bowling and was an avid movie goer. He enjoyed a large circle of friends and enjoyed entertaining, hosting poker nights and family get togethers. Everyone knew Scott as kind and giving. He never forgot a birthday or special event.
He was active in the community serving on the Northern Nevada Railway Board and was an integral part of hosting the special July 4, Polar Express and Halloween train excursions for many years. Scott was a member of the Ely Rotary Club for 34 years. He was instrumental in raising money at the annual golf tournament and the ice fishing derby. He looked forward to the monthly meetings, the crab crack, and loved escorting his daughters and grandkids to the annual Valentine’s Day luncheons.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Suzy, sister Susan Gubbine, and wife Judi. Scott is survived by and extremely proud of daughters Carrie Hase Tallman and Amy (Steven) Howe; stepchildren Melissa (Cody) Crader and John (Ginger) Rick; grandchildren: Sammi, Alli, Nico, Emi, Levi, Cade, Cole, Sabrina, Maddie, Jace, and one great grandchild Zayan. He is also survived by dear cousins who were more like siblings to him: Lynne (Richard) Norris and Lance (Nami) Aoyagi.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer in Ely. It will be a party Scott would be proud of to include a round of golf. Details coming soon.
