Obit-Miller1Courtney Marie (Williams) Miller was taken from us April 23, 2016. Courtney was born November 14, 1982 to Lloyd and Sharon Williams.

Her son Zachary (Zach) was her greatest pleasure and she loved him dearly.

She had a very successful career as the training co-ordinator at Morgan Stanley Global.

Courtney was truly a free spirit and she lived her life to fullest. She was very artistic, creative and enjoyed decorating her home. She could take a simple object and turn it into a piece of art.

Her love of  photography showed in the breath taking photos she took and  you could truly see it was her passion. An avid gun enthusiast Courtney and Zach frequently went target shooting.

She spent a lot of time in the outdoors as she had a great respect for nature and all it’s beauty. Nature shots were one of her favorite things to photograph. Courtney found beauty in things most people wouldn’t.

Courtney was not only a beautiful person, but a beautiful soul. She had a brilliant mind and a great sense of humor.  She was passionate about all she did and gave it her heart and soul.

Our hearts will always smile when we walk through our memories of Courtney Marie (Williams) Miller. As Courtney had a smile that could brighten any room.

Jose Domingo Juaristi

Obit- Juaristi1 Jose Domingo Juaristi Bengoechea died on Sunday, May 8,2016. He was 85 years old.

His friends and family knew him simply as Joe. He was a sheepherder, brother, husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.

Joe was born in Gizaburraga Spain, near the Basque fishing village of Lekeitio on September 2, 1930.

When the American West clamored for skilled shepherds after World War II, he signed up and arrivd in Elko in January 1948. He was only 17 years old then, didn’t speak English and had, as he said, “only five dollars in the pocket.”

In Elko, he worked for various sheep camps  in the county: first, for his Uncle Vincente Juaristi, then lalter, Smith Brothers, Sorenson’s Ranch and Jess Goicoechea.

He often slept in the open by a campfire with a dog curled by ihs side and the herd nearby. He fought off coyotes and  mountain lions to protect the sheep, especially newborns after lambing.

He suffered bitter winters and sweltering summers and hiked twenty miles sometimes with little food or water. Yet he always brought in the herd and never complained.

Little by little, he learned English and saved money. By 1956, he gained his citizenship and then moved into town and bought the Star Hotel in 1959.

After several successful years, he sold the Star and married Rose Marie Elicegui from Boone Springs and Ely, Nevada on May 28, 1966. Their ceremony was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ely.

With a new wife, Joe bought the Blue Jay Bar. There, he drew the railroaders and the local Basque as patrons and lived in the back behind the bar in a small two bedroom apartmentwth his family,

After six years of a thriving business, he moved with his family to a sheep farm on the outskirts of Elko where he tended a small flock on comfortable acreage. Eventually, he sold the Blue Jay and took a job with the City of Elko.

He was always a hard worker. He not only kept up the farm, fed the sheep and irrigated the alfalfa, he also worked duriingthe day to maintain Elko’s parks, mowing the lawns in summer and making the ice rink each winter.

Duriing his free time, he would fish with a buddy in one of his secret fishing holes around the county. He had a knack for catching a fish when everyone said there were no fish to be caught. His success was attributed either to ancient skills common among Basque fishermen, or a secret can of corn squirreled away in his tackle box.

Joe was happiest outdoors. He knew the mountains and valleys of Nothern Nevada better than anyone. He puttered around county roads in an old pickup with friends and relatives, pointing out a bush here, a creek there, and telling stories of his days with the herd. Few told a story with more joy or a greater smilet than him.

Joe and Rosie raised three children in Elko and saw all of them graduate college.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie; three children, Jonna, Vince and Amy; two sons-in-law, Roger and Cameron; two grandchildren, Jacob and Alexis; sister Pilar, still residing in Spain; three sisters-in-law all of whom live in Reno, Anita Williams, Mabyn Elicegui, and Mary Lou Elicegui; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends both in the U.S and Spain.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and six brothers and sisters.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elko, Nevada. A reception will follow immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be offered to Horizon Hospice, P O Box 2284, Elko, NV 89803 or to the Elko Basque Club, P O Box 1321, Elko, NV 89803.

On May 28, 2016, William (Bill) Walter Rosevear was sleeping peacefully in his home in Lund, Nev. with his daughter, Mandy, and his caregivers, Victoria and Mary, by his side when the Lord sent word he would need Bill in the high country.

So Bill left his hard working, tired earthly body behind and went to join the Lord on his outfit.  Maybe it’s also branding season there and Bill will get to rope a few calves and see many friends and family.

Bill was born to Walter Jacob Rosevear and Wilma Ferguson in Ely, Nev. on Aug. 19, 1933. He was raised with his two brothers, Thomas (Tom) and Richard (Dick), on the family ranch in White River Valley, Nev. He attended the White River Grade School with his cousins. He attended high school in Lund and Ely. He also became close to Patty and John, Walter’s dear friend  Avis’s children.

Patty’s daughter later came to the  ranch and Bill taught her to ride. He served his country from 1953 to 1956. Before he left, his grandmother, Emily (Granny) Rosevear ensured he was baptized in the Episcopal Church.

After he left the service, he married Marian and started a family in Gary, Ind., working for US Steel. But his heart was in Nevada so he separated from his wife and returned to the family ranch. He lost touch with his six children for a number of years but was blessed with their love and friendship in later years.

He married Linda in the 1967, they had three children. They lived on ranches and in Fallon, where Bill worked for Harker & Harker Construction, building power lines across the state of Nevada.

They separated and Bill returned to the ranch with his three young children. He married Ellen Lucile Gardner Gubler in Pioche, Nev. on Jan. 30, 1976. Ellen had raised four wonderful children and set to work raising Bill’s young family. Bill and Ellen were married for many wonderful years, enjoying ranch life, raising good cattle, fine horses and a loving family.

Bill’s life circled around horses, hard work and family. Some of his horses included: Pass Easy bought in 1949, the first registered quarter horse in White Pine County; Don, the little tough horse that he mustanged on in the ‘60s; Senator, out of Lamb’s Okie Star stud, carried him many miles in the ‘70s as he wore out two saddles and picked up bucking horses at the local rodeos; Harly helped him finish his work at the Henroid Ranch; Sammy, his palomino stud that he rode and roped on in his later years; and his prized stud Lenas Chex N Smart (fondly nick named Billy by Ellen) who won the Champion Nevada Stallion in 2014 at the Stallion Stakes in Elko.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ellen, his brother Richard, and his sons Richard, Gary, and Kimble.

He is survived by his bother Tom, his sister-in-law Karen, and his children: Renee, Cindy, Jeff, Marcus, Brice, Denton, Anna, Crystal, Mindy, Mandy and Walt.

He loved his grandchildren and is survived by Dana, Damon, Laura, Anna, Ruthie, Jillian, Marcus, Amanda, KC, Conan, Cara, Charity, Carolyn, Damon (yes, there are two of them), Kimberly, Kelly, Teara, Justin, Kyle, Desi, Tony, Charly, Pammy, Kami, Sawyer, Chad, Madi and Sofi.  He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and great grandchildren.
