August 9, 1939 – January 31, 2020

Mary Ellen Ford, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and a friend to many passed away at her home of 60 years in Ely, Nevada January 31, 2020 due to breast cancer.

Born August 9th, 1939 in Ruth, Nevada, she was the daughter of the late Edward Glenn Fackrell and Marjorie (Atkin) Fackrell. Mary loved living in Ely. After graduating from high school she worked for several local companies. She stopped working for a period to raise her children. During this time, she participated in the local theater where she was often cast to play the funny, crazy characters which were quite memorable. She was also instrumental in starting the first girl’s softball league in Ely.

After her children were mostly grown, she fell in love with aerobics which she would often say changed her life. She would go on to open her own fitness center, Frontier Fitness, where she taught aerobics and competed in competitions for nearly 20 years before retiring. She gained many lifetime friendships through her business and inspired so many with her positive energy and can-do attitude. Her favorite job, however, was raising her children which she always felt was the most important and rewarding job of all.

Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.”

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Henry E. Ford, parents, son David B. Lewis, and grandson Kendall Staheli. She is survived by her children Tawny (Bart) Crum, Shelly (Dave) Staheli, Charles (Farida) Lewis, Gary (Jennifer) Ford and sister Deanna (Hicks) Blackburn of Murry, UT and brothers Brent (Chris) Fackrell of Santa Clara, UT and Terry Fackrell of Ely, NV; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, seven nephews and nieces.

Please join us in celebrating her life Saturday February 15 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church in Ely, Nevada on 900 Avenue E. There will be a visitation at the church from 9-10:45am for friends and family with a memorial service at 11am and a burial to follow at the Ely Cemetery. Following the burial there will a luncheon at the church for all friends and family.

The family would like to thank all mom’s dear friends who visited and helped to provide care for her during her final months.

Karen Sue Morton Rosevear passed away peacefully on February 02, 2020 in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 80.  She was born May 16, 1939 to Beulah and Asher Morton in Stillwater, Oklahoma where her father was in the Army, stationed at Fort Still, Oklahoma. Shortly after Karen was born, her father mustered out of the Army and the family moved out West to Buhl, Idaho.  It was there that their little family grew and Karen’s siblings Richard, Wanda and Gary were born.

Karen often cared for her younger sibling’s while both of her parents worked.  Years later, her father set out to find work in the mining industry, when he became employed with Kennecott in Kimberly, Nevada and the family soon joined him. Karen was in the 8th grade attending school in Ruth, Nevada.

The family became very active in the Methodist Church where Karen became the President of the Methodist Youth Group. The family would later secure company housing in McGill, Nevada, where her sister Pam was born.   Then the worst thing imaginable happened and Karen’s father was killed in an accidental explosion at work where it changed the course of all their lives.

Karen moved on from her childhood, moving around a bit until she settled back to White Pine County where she met Richard (Dick) Leon Rosevear at the Hotel Nevada where Karen was a cocktail waitress.  It was love at first sight and they were married a short time later at the Cove Bar in White River Valley on May 5, 1963.

After Karen and Dick’s children were raised, they went on many adventures and lived in various states including Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Arkansas and settled back in White River Valley.  Karen had a vigor for life. She raised her children with values and to be respectful of others.  Although times were tight, she made the holidays and family occasions feel extra special. She spent many years loudly cheering on her kid’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, blowing her “ooga horn” and calling balls and strikes from center field.  Karen cherished teaching her grandchildren how to crochet. She also enjoyed, painting, reading, and a glass of white wine on her front porch.  Karen treasured being around family and friends and hosting BBQ’s and took pride in being the matriarch of this family.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick Rosevear, and her daughter Deborah Lynn Rosevear Baker and son-in-law John Baker.

She is survived by brothers and sisters Richard Morton, Wanda Blake, Gary Morton, Pamela Coenig, Timothy Harders and Noel Tucker, and her children Jeff Alan Rosevear, Annette Pearl Rosevear Brown (Kristopher Brown), and Robert (Buzz) Kirk Rosevear (Nancy Herms).

She loved her grandchildren and was survived by Shaun Baker, Misty Baker Masini (Joe Masini), Courtney Rosevear, Miranda Powers (Dustin Powers), Casey Rosevear, Daniel Allred (Diana Allred), Ty Rosevear, Hazyn McGrath, Hayley Morton (Kyle Morton), and Burgandy Rosevear.  She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and great grandchildren that she adored.

We are granting Karen’s wish of no funeral services.  Should family or friends desire, donations may be made to the National Heart Association by calling 1-800-AHA-USA1 or online at www2.heart.org.

Calvin “Cal” Grady Henley

“Death is life on another frequency. The music doesn’t end just because someone can’t hear it” (Deepak Chopra). Calvin “Cal” Grady Henley started his journey on another frequency February 2nd, 2020. He was born 1949 in Evanston IL. Throughout his life he called: Milwaukee, WI; Dallas, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis, MN; Dinkytown, MN; New Orleans, LA; Prescot, AZ; Reno, NV; and Ely, NV home.

Cal strived to help people find common ground and peace. He started that journey early in life studying at George Washington University and American University in Washington DC for a degree in international relations. His studies didn’t end there as he continued at Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ and Great Basin College in Ely, NV. He received his Physician’s assistant degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Finding his place in the workforce took some time as he tried out: construction, bridge building, airline ramp agent, claim stacker, hardware store staff member, miner, EMT, PA, and band director.

Adventure, curiosity, and his free spirt drove him to explore this world. He traveled to Russia, the Berlin Wall, Australia, Mexico, Bangladesh, Canada and all over the United States. That same drive led to a vast number of hobbies including rock climbing, water and snow skiing, bungee jumping, spelunking, camping, scuba diving, rappelling, and long walks in the rain. He learned to live life dancing in the rain rather than surviving the storm.

In Ely he continued to use his construction skills and creativity at his homes on Cross Timbers and Lyons Ave. His most recent art project was creating sun catcher pictures out of crushed glass which of course he crushed his own glass.

He had a passion for literature, philosophy, music, history, teaching, and movies. His home was full of quotes from others and himself. He challenged those around him to think for themselves and find their passion in life.

Believing in the healing powers of laughter and joy he spent a week at Patch Adam’s Gesundheit Institute in W. VA completing the course: The Laughing Body: The Art of Care. At the clinic, in Ely he could be found with coyote and friends, his puppets that helped treat the children and sometimes adults. A homemade clown costume brought about psycho clown around town where he would dress up and try to bring others laughter. He helped to spread joy by delivering flowers for the Flower Basket on Valentine’s day.

In grade school he picked up the trumpet and never put it down. His trumpet was his cherished companion and he played his music from the soul to the universe. Those in Ely could often hear him playing out on his porch and would stop to listen or go see him playing with the band. Cal also taught himself to play the saxophone, guitar, piano, organ, drums, and flute.

Cal opened his heart and home to those in need and is survived by the countless lives he touched.

To kick off his next journey he left us with a poem:

Been around

Been around the sun

Been around so many times

Must be home

Soon tho’

Going on a journey

Around the universe

Around the soul

Crazy Horse, upon going into battle would shout Hokahey. Meaning to live life in such a way that one has done all that one should upon one’s last day, so it is indeed a good day to die. On February 2nd Cal could shout Hokahey.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 22nd beginning at 2PM at the Bristlecone Convention Center, 150 W 6th St, Ely, NV 89301. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Learning Bridge Charter School Band Fund, 505 S. Pioche Hwy, Ely, NV 89301.

February 26th, Jo Gubbine has moved on in her eternal loving progression as she hope we all will.   Born October 5, 1927, to her beloved parents Joseph Fern and Lillian Duncomb Swensen at home in St. Anthony, Idaho, she was an only child.  She cherished her wonderful childhood with many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, and Gramma Annie on the family ranch just on the outskirts of town.  Every summer growing up was spent out at the sheep camps in the Jackson Hole area, riding horses and eating trout, which she came not to like so much.

Always feeling blessed for her happy childhood, she moved on to school at Utah State in Logan, Utah.   There she met James Gubbine.  They became husband and wife for 71 happy years. They moved to McGill in 1950 fresh out of college.  It was the same year the McGill Gym was built.  Both worked their entire careers as McGill Grade School teachers.  A dedicated teacher, teaching fourth grade from 1959 to 1981, she was always fair and caring.  She did not like bullying, meanness and hurtful teasing from any of her students.  She was good at teaching her subjects and excelled at decorating her classroom throughout the school year.  Most all of her students loved her and she loved them, though at home she frequently said she would much rather be a librarian.

After retiring in 1981, she and Jim much enjoyed their pursuit of happiness in the adventures of everyday living.  She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver and she loved Jeopardy.   She loved her Mormon faith coming from families of Mormon pioneers and she was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.  From her family and friends her loving, caring and helpful ways will always be sorely missed.

She is survived by her three sons James, Jr. (Lisa) McGill, Kent, Richmond, CA, Kim (Peggy) McGill; five grandchildren, Kelly (Sarah), Sonny, Jamie, Samuel and Karolyn; five great-grandchildren, Siset, Dominique, Rihanna, Kira Mia, Mason; one great great grandchild, Leonardo.   Those preceding her passing, a grandson Ty Gubbine and two daughters-in-law Susan Gubbine and Tina Gubbine.
